The Key of Mictlan is a relic found in The Darkness II. It is an Aztec Totem that makes an indirect reference to the Darkness.
Background[]
According to Johnny Powell, the Darkness is omnipresent, which is why many cultures make references to the Darkness, though some of them never encountered it. The Aztecs, for example, made this totem known as the "Key of Mictlan", with Mictlan being the Aztec underworld. In reality, Mictlan was the Darkness, in the form of a battleground, that fed on the souls of the dead.
This relic, being one example among many, demonstrates every human being, regardless of culture, instinctually knew that the Darkness was waiting for them.

The relic is found in the Brimstone Club pass the room with pictures and maps of Jackie's friends and family.
